Tallowood Jazz Band - "The Messengers"
“The Messengers” is Tallowood's jazz and new music ensemble. We play original music by our members, as well as contemporary arrangements of traditional gospel hymns.
Over the last few years, we have taken mission trips to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (2007), and Lisbon, Portugal (2009) where we played in churches, schools, community centers, prisons, parks, and cafes. Our unique style and format allows us to reach audiences that would otherwise have a hard time warming up to Christian music. Several times a year we perform with Dave and Jess Ray for Tallowood's EnterChange services, and have performed at other venues in the Houston area. In November of 2008, we won first prize at Union Baptist Association's Center for Counseling TalentFest, an annual songwriters competition.
Recordings
Our first album, Clear the Confusion, was released in the spring of 2009.
