Times Article from the Pastor
Dear Community of Joy,
How does it feel to be adopted into God’s family? Our study in Ephesians reminds us of the great love of our God who has predestined that our adoption will be completely fulfilled. This gives us comfort as we continue to progress with our adoption of Casey. We know it will happen so we await the celebration with great anticipation. This whole experience has not only taught me about what it means to be a father, but also new insights into the heart of our heavenly Father! Remember James 1:27, “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.” We who have been rescued become rescuers through the grace of God.
Since the weekend I have thought further about the implications of adoption in our world. Imagine 147 million orphans in our world. I thank God for a movement toward international and local adoption in the Christian community. Some of our members have become very involved not only in adopting but in the Christian movement to adopt. Pray with me about how our church can get deeply involved in caring for the children in our city, our country and our world. Some may choose to foster children and others to adopt. Others may decide to support those families by helping them with meals and ministry. I find myself asking, “How can Tallowood make a difference in the lives of the 147 million?”
I love the quote, “I am only one. But I am one. I can’t do everything. But I can do something. And what I can do, by the grace of God, I will do.” We can do everything that God wants us to do.
Rescued,
Duane
