Position: Minister of Music and Worship
Accountable to: Pastor
The Minister of Music and Worship is responsible for overseeing and building all aspects of music and drama at Tallowood Baptist Church. The candidate must be a Christ-centered individual with a passion for excellence in music, a strong knowledge of God’s word and a dedication to ministry and discipleship. This is a ministerial position and the person selected will be expected to engage fully in all aspects of ministry including personal interaction with individual members of the choir and congregation – including visitation, counsel and encouragement – and actively support continued development of the church’s music programs. With God-given skills in leadership and administration, the candidate recognizes the importance of being a team player, accepts the role of “Lead-Worshiper” and supports all ministries within the church.
With a good knowledge of choral literature and church music history, the candidate must have a strong background in traditional music and an appreciation for praise and worship and other church music styles. The candidate must have earned a minimum of a Master’s degree in Music and have a minimum of five years experience in a church with a well-developed music program. The candidate must have exceptional conducting skills, a thorough knowledge of vocal production and good keyboard skills.
Primary responsibilities of the position include leading and coordinating worship services and rehearsals of the adult choir and various music ensembles of all ages. Planning and conducting musical events, seasonal presentations, mission trips, weddings and funerals are key duties at Tallowood Baptist Church. Job responsibilities also involve planning a comprehensive music education program for adults and children, supervising the music staff, and managing the music budget, music library, and music equipment.
